We made our way to the Sheraton Heathrow on Friday. Still groggy, I noticed the lobby was half filled with an Indian wedding, the other half were in Iron Maiden shirts. I felt out of place, but Brett fit right in. He did become more difficult to spot in a crowd though.
5pm finally rolled around and we boarded the bus to the Ruskin Arms. Its an older rock club, and where Maiden has its roots. We saw three cover bands and Maiden alum. The last band was called HI-ON MAIDEN, they wore wigs. But they rocked. And guess what, Brett scored me an exclusive members only fan club tee! I am now official.
We heard another funny response to finding out we were from Chicago. Are you ready for this? "Chicago, isn't that where the Packers play?" !!!!!!!!!!!! grrrr. They immediately apologized though. :) They were nice people and it turns out they had the seats next to us at the show the next day.
Stay tuned for the next installment. Must sign off now.

FREEDOM!
8am in London on the 4th of July. No fireworks, just sleepy Jamie and Brett watching out for the redcoats. We arrived on the Caledonian sleeper train this morning. "Sleep" being the optimal word. Didn't get enough of it in the uncomfortable seats and people smoking in the next car, or opening the doors all night.
Before that we spent the day in Edinburgh. Brett was right, Glasgow is better. Less touristy. It is a beautiful city though. \sorry I'm not more descriptive, I guess its the tiredness...
Before THAT we had a fun time in tiny Dufftown. The second day there we went on the Balvenie Distillery tour. It took three whole hours and there were only six of us on it. We saw everything from barley malting to cask repair. Then the couple we met suggested we head out to a great whisky bar called Grouse Inn. We assumed it was in town, but all of a sudden we were on back farm roads and I started to question the friendly Scottish ways. Twenty minutes later, we pull up to a large old house on a hill. Nothing around for miles. The lights are all dark.... Brett and I are exchanging looks, not sure what we've gotten into, when the door opens and a little old lady smiles and ushers us in. She flips on the bar lights and hundreds of single malts come into view.

whoa.
I better let Brett get on the computer now. Bye! Cherrio! Aye!

a wee bit of driving
Driving on the left. Eh. I could do without it. The roundabouts are killer. But we only got beeped at once. Mostly because we found the "learner" tags to stick in the window, so people can't really yell at us without feeling bad. And we've already been over how polite they all are here. :)
The weather finally cleared, but that's not what you want to read about, right? Adventure! Well, its been pretty straightforward the last two days. The last B&B we stayed at had some eldery ladies that didn't like Brett's beard. So that was something.
Last night we checked into the "Whisky Capital of the World"! Dufftown. All of our favorite whiskys are here. Macallan, Balvenie, Aberlour...luck would have it there was a tasting last night. We didn't win the nosing competition, I guess my sense of smell is not so sophisticated. :(
Well this cafe charges a pound for 30 minutes, that's two bucks. The weak dollar really stinks. And that's something I CAN smell. har har.
