Tea Time

necropolis
The rain cleared for a bit last night, so we trucked it down to the cathedral. It felt like forever, and Google maps just confirmed it was a good 2.3 miles. Uphill both ways! :) The main part was closed, so we snuck into the necropolis. It was creepy and awesome at the same time.

ok, now we're about to head out to the grosvenor theatre/cinema whatever that has been the host of many wonderful films for brett waaaaay back in the mid-nineties. in other words, it's time for SWEET'N'SALTY POPCORN!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYY!!!!!!!

jamiealso, earlier, we had our first ever afternoon tea. brett: how did i miss this before? it was delicious. i recommend.

off to the highllands tomorrow, so we might not be able to write for a bit: oban, then ballachuish, and glen coe. and there will be a picnic.

For a minute there, I lost myself

(fast forward to about 4:30 when everyone keeps singing, it was so so cool to be in the middle of that)

So tired today. After Radiohead, the crowd of 25,000 dispersed across the streets of Glasgow. We walked forever only to find out that bars close at midnight. Ah, but the trick is the clubs stay open till 3am, which still only feels like 8pm to us. We passed a piper playing in the street, one drunk guy listening turned to us yelling "I am William Wallace!!". That's a lot of Scotland all at once. I expected to run into Sean Connery at any moment...

We met some more kind folks who had the strangest reaction to learning we were from Chicago- "hey, didn't you guys just have those real big bugs that come out every 23 years?". heh.

Today was spent walking all around the University and visiting an art gallery. It rained/misted so much I could barely take any pics. :( And all those walks Brett and I took in preparation for the trip were pretty useless, because there were no hills. We should have been practising on ski slopes. Geez. My feet hurt.

I think tonight is a movie night, then off to see the cathedral early in the morning. Cheers!

GLAS-goh

The weather in Glasgow is not cooperating with us. I thought when people said it always rains here, it was like saying its always windy in Chicago. Not so much. The outdoor Radiohead show starts in an hour and it looks like we'll be soaked. But who's complaing, we're in Scotland! :)

Actually, there is something to complain about. Maybe you're wondering why there aren't any pictures with the post? Well yesterday, as we explored the city on 10 minutes sleep, somehow we lost the camera- or someone swiped it (sorry mom, we'll buy you a new one). If it was the later, it seems a freak occurence, because the Glaswegians have been so friendly. And the accent! I think a lot of people here speak english interchangably with gaelic, like spanglish. We met some guys last night who tried to teach us some of it. They said if anyone messes with us, say "macashow". And what would that mean? Its gaelic for "f-you". I think I'll run right out and try it now...

Some other fun facts about Glasgow-

- their most popular soft drink is called "Irn-Bru". It tastes like carbonated bubblegum. Gross.
- you know how we always like to drink "forgein" beers? They love the MGD. Gross.
- fried potatoes are not french fries, they are chips. ok.

Hope you enjoyed this installment of "Travel with Jamie and Brett". more later. I used a lot of "quotes" in this post, didn't I? :)
